Dementia Research

There continues to be lots of research on dementia, the causes, symptoms, and possible prevention.

Learn more about research centers, new clinical trials, and what we already know about the disease.

Research Institutions by State

Find Alzheimer’s research centers that provide diagnosis, medical research, and support groups. Search by state to find and ADRC center near you.

Find Clinical Trials

Below are a few great resources to help you find clinical trials your loved one might be eligible for.

Prevention

Intensive lifestyle changes — eating minimally processed plant-based foods plus frequent exercise, stress reduction and support groups — may reduce the symptoms of mild cognitive impairment and early Alzheimer’s disease, according to a newly released study.

Diagnosing Alzheimer’s

A study by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and Lund University in Sweden shows that a blood test can be as good at detecting molecular signs of Alzheimer’s disease in the brain as cerebrospinal fluid tests approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

Treating Alzheimer’s

Several prescription drugs are approved by the U.S. FDA for Alzheimer’s disease to help either manage the symptoms of or to treat the disease. Most FDA-approved drugs work best for people in the early or middle stages of Alzheimer’s. There are currently no known interventions that will cure Alzheimer’s.
